Bloomfield Township was the first township in Oakland County to be incorporated in 1827, and it almost surrounds the city of Bloomfield Hills. The name probably came from the blooming flowers throughout the fields in the township. Bloomfield Township has since blossomed into a charming bedroom community and one of the best places to live in Michigan. About 95% of the township is made up of over 16,000 residential homes.
