History of Ferndale Michigan

As the Detroit area grew and got busier, many Detroit workers began looking for an escape into the suburbs. Workers began moving into Ferndale in large numbers prior to World War II. The Royal Oak train station, built in 1834, provided residents with reliable transportation from Detroit into Ferndale and Royal Oak. Ferndale was incorporated as a village in 1918 and became a city in 1927. Today the city continues to grow as people look for a more suburban, family-friendly lifestyle.

Getting around the city of Ferndale and the metro Detroit area is no problem! Located on E 9 Mile Road and North Woodward Avenue, Ferndale residents have easy access to I-75 so Detroit is just a short 8 mile drive away.
